It’s 2017 and I Vow to Be Celibate Until…

To get us fired up for 2017, my pastor said something truly powerful today. He said, before you move forward, connect upward. See, we’ve all done it. We make these awesome New Year’s resolutions…lose weight, eat healthier, quit smoking, travel more. For those single and looking for real love, that resolution can be to abstain from sex or be celibate until…

Until. This is where our resolutions or goals get tricky. You see, the “until” is different for everyone. Your “until” can last a day, a week, or longer. Ultimately, you decide how far forward you go by how high upward you reach. I make no bones about the fact that celibacy is a challenge. Nor do I even dream of taking God out of the equation to successfully manage a pure lifestyle. But reaching the ultimate goal of celibacy until marriage means more than just making a resolution to be celibate. It means connecting upward with God for your mind, for your peace, and for your blessing.

Connecting With God for Your Mind

Women are famous for changing their minds. It’s one of the things that men find the most frustrating about us. We can’t just go to a party. No. From the moment the word “party” is mentioned, we begin to analyze everything.

  • First, it’s what kind of party.
  • Then, what attire is appropriate for that party.
  • Then, what shoes and accessories are needed to match our attire.
  • And it goes on and on.

Life, for us, is like a party. So we change with the tides and trends of other women. The call to be celibate, however, can be a brand new way of life. And this brand new way of life demands a brand new way of thinking. To be successful in your journey to celibacy until marriage, you must connect your mind with the mind of Christ.

You will waiver and be shaken only if you try to dictate the terms of celibacy according to your way of thinking. In the Bible in 1 Corinthians 2 (the whole chapter is awesome), it says ” ‘Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.” We cannot instruct God. But, through His Spirit, He guides us.

What is it that God asks of us on this journey? Is it to remain celibate until the man of your dreams says “I love you?” Is it until he proposes? Dig into God’s Word and connect with His mind and His standard so that your mind will remain rooted in conviction according to His word.

Connecting with God for Your Peace

Once your mind is engaged in the scriptures and you see what God’s word says, then peace will naturally follow. Yes, naturally. You no longer have to worry about what your:

  • best friends think
  • boyfriend thinks
  • fiance wants
  • body wants

Your mind will replace these dominant thoughts with healthier, more uplifting ones such as:

  • Who can I serve?
  • How can I be a better daughter?
  • What does God want from my life?

You will now have the opportunity to peacefully pursue God’s purpose for you and trust Him in every area of your life.

Connecting with God for Your Blessing

There was a time in my life when I thought I wouldn’t be married. And, I decided to genuinely be okay with it. I thought of  all that I could do for God if there was no man in my life. Well, all of a sudden, there wasn’t just one man, but several who were pursuing a relationship with me. God weeded through them and blessed me with my husband of now 15 years. But that blessing came after my peace. I will NEVER forget it.

God wants the same for you. He wants to bless you with the man who will honor everything about you – whether it’s your:

  • heart
  • mind
  • soul
  • spirit
  • body
  • dreams
  • goals
  • resolutions
  • convictions
  • faith

I know the decision to be celibate until marriage won’t be easy. But, I promise that if you first connect upward, God will make sure that you move forward in life, in love, and in everything else. Take the journey of celibacy with us here at The Celibate Woman. Watch God work!
